Hometown Halloween in Warrenton might be the area’s can’t miss family event for All Hallows Eve.“It’s bigger this year. There are more people involved this year. More merchants, more to do and not just candy,” said Stacey Blondin a member of Warrenton Downtown Association, the organization that spearheads the event.Hometown Halloween is 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 on Main Street. The road will be closed to traffic so kids, with their families, can explore safely.Blondin said safety and fun is why the Downtown Association organizes the event. Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes, enter contests and enjoy holiday-themed activities in a safe environment. If people are expecting more of the same this year, that’s not the case.Blondin said there will be a photo booth for kids to get pictures of themselves in their costumes and enter the Facebook costume contest. Area churches are setting up “trunk or treats” where guests may vote for the best trunk or treat. Merchants are joining the festivities with a candy crawl and kids can do some creative pumpkin coloring at Twisted Willow Grill and Saloon.Scenic Regional Library will have “Scary Storytime,” and witches will take residence at the historic Schowengerdt House. People who grow pumpkins should bring their biggest one for the “Great Pumpkin Weigh In.”Hometown Halloween will have a seed spitting contest and a scavenger hunt. Blondin said scavenger hunt participants should pick up forms at City Hall, Main Street Real Estate or Twisted Willow Grill and Saloon.Admission is free and so are the activities and contests. The only event that requires a fee is the “Great Grape Stomp” at Deerfield’s on Main.Main Street will be blocked from Troy to Market avenues from 2 to 7 p.m. It will be open just to pedestrians.Stay up to date by visiting the Warrenton Downtown Association’s Facebook page or call Blondin at 314-713-1463.Hometown HalloweenRecord file photo
