Record Managing EditorThe sidewalks of Warrenton will soon be full of children decked out in their Halloween costumes. The third annual Hometown Halloween will be held this Saturday, Oct. 17, from 3-6 p.m. on Main Street in Warrenton. The event is sponsored by the Warrenton Downtown Association.Attendees, young and old, are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and visiting participating businesses that will be handing out candy. Other activities are planned as well, including face painting, apple bobbing and kids games. There is no cost to participate.“We want families to come out and enjoy this friendly event,” WDA President Brenda Sue Fowler said. One of the main attractions is a business scavenger hunt. Families can pick up an entry form at Brewskies or Brenda Sue’s and then must visit all of the participating businesses on the map. Completed entry forms can be dropped off at Brenda Sue’s and will be entered into a drawing to win a basket containing donated items from participating businesses.Fowler said the idea behind the scavenger hunt is to allow participants to visit and learn more about Main Street businesses. The first two years of Hometown Halloween have been deemed a success and continues to grow, Fowler said. Organizers have estimated that over 300 children have shown up.There is still time remaining for businesses and organizations to get involved.
