Homeless advocate surprised with truck repairs

Albert St. Clair Sr. has made it a priority to help those facing homelessness, particularly veterans. On Friday, he found himself on the other end of other people’s generosity.Businesses and individuals who were aware of St. Clair’s impact in the community collected money and surprised him Friday, Dec. 4, by having his truck repaired at 5 Star Auto Plaza in St. Charles. There were approximately 40 donors who contributed money to cover the expense of the repairs.St. Clair, an O’Fallon veteran, is the founder of St. Clair’s Hearts Foundation. The nonprofit organization’s mission is to assist individuals and families in breaking the chain of homelessness through property assistance. Some of the assistance provided by the foundation include helping with living accommodations, employment and educational support. The foundation’s goal is to help families be able to support themselves and to eventually help others achieve similar results.Other veterans who observe St. Clair, including some from Warren County, say he does his best to find a furnished place to live and raise money to feed those who are homeless. Not only that, he will spend time with them.Recently, St. Clair sold his personal Harley-Davidson and furniture to raise money for those in need.“If there’s a veteran in need, he’s there,” said Peggy Pompe. For more information on St. Clair’s foundation, visit www.stclairshearts.org.
