Hoelscher, Lewis vying for treasurer

They are both vying for the position currently held by Gene Cornell, who is retiring.The winner will run uncontested in the November general election and will take office in January. The treasurer’s position is a four-year term.The candidates are listed in the order they will appear on the ballot.Randy LewisRandy Lewis, 51, is a professional land surveyor and partner at Lewis-Bade, a civil engineering firm in Warrenton.Lewis, who lives in Wright City, is a former Warren County Southern District Commissioner and also served on the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission Executive Board as well as on the board of the Wright City Fire Protection District.“In those capacities, I managed more than $19 million annually in taxpayer money, staying within budget,” Lewis said.If elected, Lewis says he would like to “move the treasurer’s office into modern times,” bringing new technology and other tools to all departments.He hopes to fully implement online banking for Warren County and introduce use of credit card and debit card processing for taxpayers. He also said he would like to provide county employees with the option of automatic electronic payroll deposits.“I promise fiscal responsibility with all taxpayer money,” said Lewis.Lewis is a member of the Missouri Farm Bureau, the NRA, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Missouri Society of Professional Land Surveyors, American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, and the Missouri Mappers Association.Jeff HoelscherJeff Hoelscher, 52, currently is manager and escrow officer at Northeast Missouri Title, Inc. and is the current Warren County public administrator, which is an elected position.Hoelscher, who lives in Warrenton, said he believes he brings highly relevant skills and experience to the office of treasurer.“The next treasurer of Warren County needs to be a person who has the public’s trust in keeping the funds of the county safe and available for county use,” he said.“As an escrow officer of a title company for the past 30 years, I’ve been taking care of funds for land purchasers here, and I am audited every year by the insurance underwriter,” he stated. “They always find my books balance to the penny.”Hoelscher said that as public administrator and conservator for nearly 30 people for the past five years, he’s made annual settlements to probate court for his wards’ income and expenses, and has always received approved settlements. He also is responsible for maximizing investments for some of his wards.“I understand the importance of keeping the funds of others safe and available,” Hoelscher said. “As an escrow officer and public administrator, I feel I have the experience to be the treasurer the people of Warren County need and deserve.”Hoelscher is a past president of the Rotary Club, past treasurer of Warren County Historical Society, past board president of Friedens United Church of Christ and a founding member of the Central Missouri Railroad Association.
