Highway 47 four lanes? Be careful what you ask for!

To The Editor:While we all want better opportunities for businesses in our community, pushing for a four-lane road on State Highway 47 should not be one of them.A recent article in The Record reflected the business boom on Highway 100 after the expansion. The expansion noted in the article is very misleading. Much of the property in that area was already slated for business zoning. This is not the case for Highway 47.Most of the surrounding area on Highway 47 between Washington and Warrenton is residential. There already is a high amount of trucking that utilizes Highway 47 and no doubt some of that is for bypassing the weight station in Foristell. Making Highway 47 a four-lane road will undoubtedly be the first step to renaming the road to 470! If you think 47 is already busy wait till it would open up to a four-lane road! Is that what we want for our community?Be very cautious when you hear people pushing for further development of Highway 47. They likely have their own agenda to benefit themselves and not the good of our community, especially families and housing communities that are close to Highway 47.Warrenton has a lot going for it. It is a great family community that has plenty of business potential along Interstate 70.Put Warrenton families and residents first.Dean EechauteWarrenton
