High School Remembers 'Sweet' Girl

Students gathered at the flagpole in front of the high school Monday morning before classes began to remember their friend and classmate who was killed in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning. Students fought through tears with encouraging hugs and uplifting prayers. Many of the students held hands. The near 45-minute gathering concluded with students singing "Amazing Grace" and penning thoughts on a posterboard to be given to Monshower's family. Monshower, a senior, was two months shy from graduating. She was a member of the high school choir and FCCLA, a family and consumer science organization, according to school officials. "She was a good student, a great girl," said Jeremy Way, high school principal. "She was one of those girls that was very sweet. If she didn't have a smile on her face, you could say one thing to her and she would start smiling again. She was a girl you would want as your own daughter." According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Monshower was a passenger in a 1993 GMC Sierra driven by Justin Guinn, 17, also of Warrenton. The truck was heading southbound on Sunnyside Road near the Marks Crossing when the vehicle left the right side of the road, traveled through a grass ditch and struck a tree around 12:40 a.m. Monshower was pronounced dead at the scene by Warren County Coroner Roger Mauzy. Guinn was transported to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis with moderate injuries. School officials said he was released Sunday. The Patrol reported neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. A group of students - Eric Smith, Nathan Kemry, Christian Taber and Steven Resnick - gathered informally at the crash site Sunday evening and went through some of the leftover wreckage. They said Guinn was driving Monshower home, which was only a few miles away. "She was a real nice girl," Smith, a junior, said. "I don't know what to think. It was a hell of a shock." Taber, a junior, added: "She was a good person. I always called her my shorty. She was loving. I can't believe this happened." Way said counselors from throughout the school district and the Crider Center were going to be on hand this week. A designated area also had been set up for students to gather about Monshower's passing. School officials said visitation services were held Tuesday at Pitman Funeral Home. Funeral services were Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Warrenton.
