Helicopter pilot escapes serious injury in rural Warren County crash

A Missouri man escaped serious injury when a helicopter he was piloting crashed in rural Warren County Monday night.The copter went down around 11:09 p.m. in a wooded area near Dry Fork Road, located northwest of Marthasville.The pilot, identified as a 66-year-old man from Waynesville, had only minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and released.Warren County Sheriff Kevin Harrison reported the pilot was flying from Troy to Waynesville.He apparently was flying low due to fog in the area and the copter struck trees in the area, causing him to lose control, according to Harrison.Photos taken at the scene showed the helicopter sustained significant damage.The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration is handling the investigation, Harrison said.
