Update: This story has been updated with information on Heiliger's funeral arrangements.
Original story:
Wright City Mayor David Heiliger has died following a heart attack earlier this week.
City officials said Heiliger was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis, before passing away the evening of July 6.
“Mayor Heiliger has been a great friend and champion for the City of Wright City and our citizens,” officials said in a public statement. “He was a tireless worker for the good of all those he served.”
Visitation for Heiliger will be 1:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 10 at Pitman Funeral Home, 904 Highway 47 South in Warrenton. His funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11 at Pitman Funeral Home. He will be interred in the Wright City Cemetery.
Dave Heiliger, the son of longtime Alderman Wil Heiliger, was first elected mayor in 2010. He brought a sense of humor and camaraderie to Wright City’s governing body, which had been mired in bickering.
When taking office, Heiliger speculated on the words his late father might have shared.
“He’d probably tell me, ‘Do what you can to take care of the town and be fiscally responsible.’ ”
Until the Wright City Board of Aldermen appoints a new mayor, board President Dan Rowden will serve as interim mayor, according to the city's municipal code.
