Health fair continues to draw strong following

As one of the more established events in the community, the Warren County Health Fair has distinguished itself as a go-to resource for many citizens. This year’s event was no exception, as nearly 500 people poured into the Wright City High School gymnasium while heavy rain fell outside.Warren County Public Health Administrator Ruth Walters believes the weather and the fair’s reputation played in its favor.“We were thrilled with the attendance, despite the torrential rain,” quipped Walters. “Actually, it may have helped that people chose to spend their time inside.”An alternating year event along with the safety fair, the health fair continues to grow. This year saw 75 vendors and 12 sponsors from a variety of backgrounds, including exercise, medical, mental health, insurance and finances. The Kiwanis Club was also there to talk about some new services it will be bringing to the community.“Everyone seemed pretty happy about who they talked to,” said Walters. “A lot of the vendors were new, so they were excited.”One of the more popular exhibits was the chair exercise demonstration put on by a group from health department’s fitness center.Walters says the event has begun to expand its following beyond the county lines.“We’ve had people come from Moscow Mills and Lincoln County, so it attracts a variety of people,” said Walters.Another popular element are the free bike helmets and fittings offered by the Wright City Fire Protection District.“I think what people appreciate the most about the health fair is they learn about resources they never before knew existed,” said Walters.
