Hampson, Fischer face off for Northern District Commissioner

Two Republican candidates will face off for the office of Warren County Northern District commissioner in Tuesday’s election.Candidates are Kathryn Fischer, Truxton, and Dan Hampson, Warrenton.Below are the candidates’ responses to a questionnaire that was sent out. Republican Hubert “Hubie” Kluesner is running unopposed for the Warren County Southern District commissioner. FischerA newcomer to politics, Fischer hasn’t held a position in public office.Fischer said her goal is to connect with voters to understand what they want and to make them a part of the governmental process.She has worked in banking, as a business owner and bookkeeper. She retired from the R-III School District after working there for 17 years.“I am not a politician. I don’t have a website,” she said. “I cannot tell of my experience as a commissioner, but I can tell you that I am honest and outspoken. (I) feel my life experiences . . . make me qualified to be Northern District commissioner.”Fischer is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and is a part of the Republican Central Committee.She is married to Randy Fischer.HampsonDan Hampson is the incumbent Warren County Northern District Commissioner, a position he has held for the past 7 1/2 years.Hampson said that he has made significant policy changes in working with the Economic Development Council and other governmental agencies, including helping facilitate $119 million in new construction for manufacturing facilities in the Warren County area.“Since I became commissioner, Warren County has paved 35 miles of road and built nine bridges, built a $6.5 million administration building and improved the courthouse with $255,000 in upgrades,” he said, adding that the improvements were made without raising taxes. As commissioner, Hampson said some of his priorities include creating jobs in Warren County, repairing current roads and building new roads.“These actions will help better the quality of life and help in the stabilization of neighborhoods,” he said.Hampson said he also wants to work with the sheriff to make improvements to the jail’s plumbing system and update technology.He also is a charter member of the Warren County Economic Development Council. He serves on the board of the Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce, Warren County Health Partnerships, Warrenton Knights of Columbus and is a member of Holy Rosary Church, Wright City Chamber of Commerce, Wright City Seniors and Warrenton Elks.He and his wife Donna have been married for 45 years.
