GWCEDC launches start of railroad terminal

The Greater Warren County Economic Development Council (GWCEDC) announced the launch of a shared railroad shipping terminal in Warren County.A number of businesses looking to expand or relocate to the area desire to have a site with rail presence, but may not ship enough product to justify the cost of their own dedicated rail spur, officials said. This shared facility will enable businesses within the area to have rail access without the high cost of constructing and operating their own terminal. The GWCEDC acquired 1.3 acres of land in Truesdale along the Norfolk Southern main line and has finished construction of a rail shipping facility on Nick Place Drive. The rail facility will have the capability to offload bulk commodities from rail cars using an undercar conveyor, or can be reversed to load rail cars. The facility will begin operations in October.“Continuing to invest in public infrastructure will help the region support business growth and constructing this rail loading facility in our own community will enhance our image as an attractive location for business,” said Gary Carter, GWCEDC president.“The GWCEDC is currently working with multiple local businesses that will use the facility to receive commodities. The facility also will be available to other businesses in the community that desire to shop or receive products via rail. The GWCEDC worked closely with Norfolk Southern Railway and Coca-Cola, USA to acquire the existing rail spur.To inquire about utilizing the spur, contact the GWCEDC at 636-359-0114.
