A Better Road Forward is collecting signatures with a goal of having a ballot issue in 2018 to ban any future tolls on existing roads in Missouri. The petition is a constitutional amendment, therefore 160,000 signatures are needed for ballot placement.“We are one step closer to banning future toll roads in Missouri,” said Wayne Baker, chairman of A Better Road Forward. “We are pleased the secretary of state has approved our initiative petitions for signature collection, and we hope to give Missourians an opportunity in 2018 to ban double taxation and preserve the freedom of our roadways for future generations of hardworking Missourians.”The secretary of state approved the circulation of this petition. Three similar versions of the initiative were filed on April 4 with the secretary of state, and all three have been approved for circulation.A Better Road Forward is a transportation advocacy group comprised of concerned citizens, small businesses, organizations and communities who are committed to finding viable solutions to solve Missouri’s transportation crisis. The group formed shortly after state officials extended a deadline that would make Interstate 70 vulnerable to tollway projects. The group views tolling as double taxation on Missouri’s citizens, small businesses and working families. It plans to expand their coalition in the coming months. It has until spring 2018 to submit the required signatures for ballot placement.More information on A Better Road Forward can be found at BetterRoadMO.com.A Better Road Forward
