Crews are preparing to begin construction of a new Interstate 70 interchange near Highway MM in Warrenton. The official groundbreaking ceremony for Warrenton’s second interchange will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the mall in Warrenton, Highway MM and Veterans Memorial Parkway. The public is invited to join city officials, state senators and representatives and Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) representatives at the west parking lot at the Shoppes at Warrenton Mall (formerly the Warrenton Outlet Mall). The interchange will be constructed using funds from two half-cent sales taxes approved by Warrenton voters in 2016. The estimated completion date is fall 2018.City leaders say the new interchange will provide emergency responders with better access to I-70, and a way for local drivers to cross over the interstate if the current overpass in Warrenton becomes blocked. It is also a means of spurring economic development at the mall and the surrounding area, by providing more direct access to drivers from the interstate.Several new businesses have opened at the mall in recent months, and develops have expressed interest in the land north and south of the future interchange. For more information about the groundbreaking event, call Warrenton City Hall at 636-456-3535.
