The Grabs House and Store will be decorated for Christmas and open to the public on Sunday, Dec. 1, from 1-4 p.m. There is no charge to see the reconstructed log buildings located at Sixth Street and Main Street/Highway D in Marthasville.
Augustus Grabs first came to Missouri in 1830 to check out the writings of Gottfried Duden. After his store in North Washington was flooded in 1844, he bought the former Young-Griswold-Adams store. The property was passed down through his family until his last descendant, Helen Rusche, left it to the city of Marthasville.
The Grabs House and Store are administered by Marthasville’s Rusche Park Board. For more information, call Cathie Schoppenhorst at 636-359-6175 or email cschoppenhorst@yahoo.com.
