A GPS tracking device helped locate a 53-foot box trailer stolen from Greif Brothers in November and now criminal charges have been filed against an Illinois man.
A warrant was issued April 30 for James W. Doty, 43, of Sorento, Ill. He has been charged with felony stealing. A $10,000 bond has been set.
According to a probable cause statement, the trailer belonged to Greif Brothers and was stolen from its Wright City facility on Nov. 1 around 10 p.m. Since the trailer was equipped with a GPS tracking device, police learned that the trailer was taken to Cash's Scrap Metal in Festus.
Police also said a review of Doty's cellphone account reveled a phone call had been made in Wright City on Nov. 1 and later that night in Pevely, which is about six miles from Cash's facility. Officials with Cash's said a man identified as Doty turned in the trailer for scrap on Nov. 2, according to police.
