Girls golf program competes in first conference tourney

Record Managing EditorWhile the Warrenton girls golf team finished at the bottom of the Gateway Athletic Conference Tournament, Head Coach Matt Griffin found several positives to take away.“From our last 18-hole tournament, we improved by 19 shots as a team,” he said. “Each girl bettered their 18-hole score.”The Warriors shot 544 as a team during the tourney held last Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Bear Creek Golf Club in Wentzville.Liberty Billings shot a team-best 127 to lead Warrenton. Jordan Todd followed with a 128, with Deanna Martin and Morgan Toebben shooting a 130 and 159, respectively.As a first-year program, Griffin is pleased with the strides the team has been making.“The girls have gained a lot of experience playing in these 18-hole tournaments and are beginning to understand the physical and mental challenges that a golfer must overcome to be competitive in a tournament,” he said.Warrenton competed in the district tournament Monday at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton.
