Warren County Presiding Commissioner Roger R. Mauzy Sr., a Republican, faces a challenger for the Aug. 7 Republican primary.

Mauzy, a Warrenton resident, is being challenged for the Republican nomination for presiding commissioner by Joe Gildehaus of Marthasville. The winner of this race will face off in November against David J. Hubbard, who resides in eastern Warren County and is unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

This is a four-year term.

Joe Gildehaus

Gildehaus, of Marthasville, is the owner and operator of Professional Touch Painting & Decorating.

“I am 51 years old, my children are grown, my business is established, and I find myself at a point in my life where I have the time to get involved for my community,” Gildehaus said. “Warren County is growing at a rapid pace. I feel now more than ever our county needs positive leadership with a proven successful business background. I also feel I can bridge communication and relationships with our local cities and surrounding communities.”

Gildehaus is a MSHSAA high school  basketball official, past Missouri foster parent, and member of the NRA, Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Warrenton Chamber of Commerce, Marthasville Chamber of Commerce, Washington Chamber of Commerce, New Haven Chamber of Commerce, and Greater Warren County Economic Development Council.

He is a member of St. Vincent Church in Dutzow

For the past eight years, he has served on the board of directors for Branson Golf Resort and Village. As president of the board, he helps manage staff and operations of a golf course and villas with an annual budget of $4.2 million.

“I want to bring a proven record of successful business leadership to our commission. I want to work with our local cities, civic groups, home builders, realtors, economic development boards and surrounding communities to embrace future growth in a positive manner, while still maintaining our small town values and rural agricultural heritage,” Gildehaus said.

“I want to bring in responsible decision making and efficient spending. Large purchases should be advertised and bid regularly. County business should be transparent and accountable to the public,” he said. “I also want to ensure that our road and bridge tax dollars are being spent as efficiently as possible. All citizens deserve safe roads, that are properly built, and regularly maintained.

“Most importantly I want to be accessible to the public, to foster a relationship built upon mutual trust and respect, to advocate for citizens to have their voices heard, and I want our county government to reflect the wishes and best interest of our community,” he said.

Gildehaus is married to Cathie, a retired cosmetologist who is currently working part time as a receptionist for a construction company.

Roger R. Mauzy Sr.

Mauzy, of Warrenton, is a former member of Warrenton Elks and American Legion. He is a life member of Warrenton VFW.

“I have strived to do my best to work for the citizens of Warren County for the past 21 years in one capacity or another. I enjoy helping people and would appreciate one more term to continue my endeavors.”

Mauzy served as Warren County coroner from 1997 to 2015 before joining the Warren County Commission.

“We made the Augusta Bottom Road a safer passageway. We have built two bridges, paved several roads and solved numerous taxpayer issues,” he said of his time as a commissioner.

Mauzy said he doesn’t have any immediate changes in mind if re-elected.

“At this time I see no need to make any policy changes, unless a situation arises where a change needs to be made,” he said. “I would like to see more citizens come to our session and ask questions so they understand our position.”

He is married to Denise, who is retired.
