The city of Warrenton will host its Fall Festival from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, with live music, vendors, a car show and a children’s play area. The event is free and will be held on Main Street in downtown Warrenton. This year’s event offers a band with more hits and more vendors than last year.Mayor Eric Schleuter said this is one of the biggest events Warrenton has. It was created as a community event for neighbors and families for a fun get-together in cooler weather.Schleuter said, “The entertainment is free. Enjoy it with your friends.” He added last year’s event was a big success. Like last year, he hopes to see a large crowd of residents. He would also like to see people from out of town. “I love our town. We have good qualities. We have people from all over come here and move here and we’re just an hour from St. Louis,” Schleuter commented. If people from out of town come to the Warrenton Fall Festival, it’s an opportunity to show off Warrenton, he said. Alderman Mike Shilharvey, Ward 1, agreed.“It’s a good way to give residents something to enjoy and a good way to bring people in to show off the city.”The big draw for locals and out-of-towners is the entertainment. This year’s highlight is a live performance on the main stage from the Little River Band from 7:30-9 p.m.The band had its biggest hits in the 1970s and 1980s. The songs it is known for are “Reminiscing,” “Cool Change,” “Lonesome Loser,” “The Night Owls,” “Take It Easy on Me,” “Help Is on Its Way,” “Happy Anniversary,” “We Two,” “Man on Your Mind,” “The Other Guy,” and “It’s a Long Way There.”The original members of the Little River Band lineup moved on a long time ago. The present lineup includes one longtime member. Wayne Nelson, lead vocals and bass guitar, joined the band in 1980. By then the band had been together five years and already had a Top 40 hit in the United States with “It’s a Long Way There.”The rest of the band’s current lineup joined in 2000 and later. They are Greg Hind, guitar and vocals; Chris Marion, keyboards and vocals; Rich Herring guitar and vocals; and Ryan Ricks, percussion and vocals.Another local favorite will perform, too. Longtime St. Louis cover band, Butch Wax & The Hollywoods, plays oldies and Motown from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. The band performed at the first two Fall Festivals. This year they will perform from 1-4 p.m. on the east stage.Registration for the car and motorcycle show runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Specialty Auto Body will judge the competition and present awards at 4 p.m. Shilharvey said the car show gets bigger each year. The Kids Corner is open from noon to 6:30 p.m. The Kids Corner has a game trailer and giant inflatables for youngsters to slide on, jump and climb. The entertainment is free, but bring money to buy from the vendors. They are selling food, drinks, alcohol and merchandise. Main Street shop owners may join the event. “This year some of the local businesses are chipping in. Downtown Pub and Grill is bringing in a band,” Shilharvey said. Shilharvey added that the entire event costs about $80,000. The funds come out of the tourism budget. The first Warrenton Fall Festival was in 2015. It featured live music from Butchwax & The Hollywoods and Dr. Zhivegas. The Warrenton Elks Lodge Car Show and a kids corner. The second year, in 2016, .38 Special preformed as did Butch Wax & The Hollywoods and the Stacey Collins Band. The Kids Corner was back and so was the car show. Vendors sold food and beverages. The Warrenton Fall Festival is a semi-reincarnation of a past annual event, Catch the Glow. Catch the Glow was held annually in the summer for many years after the street lights were installed along Main Street. Catch the Glow ended after its 2012 event.Shilharvey said the event went away for a few years and returned in 2015 as the Warrenton Fall Festival.Warrenton Fall Festival
