Jonesburg-based internet provider Gateway Fiber was recently joined by Missouri Governor Mike Parson to celebrate expansion of the Gateway network into St. Peters and St. Charles.
A ceremony to announce the start of construction in the two cities was held May 17 at the Water’s Edge Banquet Center in St. Peters. This follows the start of construction in Warrenton, Wright City and Wentzville earlier this year. The company said it plans to invest $150 million over three years to bring high-speed, fiber optic internet connection to 30,000 homes and businesses in Warren, Lincoln and St. Charles Counties.
“We’re on a mission to positively impact the communities we serve, advance economic development, and bridge the digital divide,” Gateway Fiber president and co-founder Heath Sellenriek said during the ceremony in St. Peters. “With construction underway in Wentzville and St. Peters, we are poised to grow alongside the fastest-growing region in the Midwest.”
Coming from a small town, Sellenriek said he and his partners saw the local need for an internet provider that could deliver a reliable, fast connection and truly emphasizes customer service. The last year has only reinforced the importance of quality internet service, he added.
Gov. Parson also spoke at the event, saying Gateway Fiber is helping deliver on a critical goal for Missouri’s infrastructure.
“Every Missourian needs high-speed internet connectivity,” he said. “If we can put electric in every household, we can put broadband in every home, too.”
Parson explained that expansion of broadband internet is key to Missouri’s economic development and the well being of individual households. For the last year, it’s how many families accessed things like education and telehealth. He said the state has made it a priority to work with companies like Gateway Fiber to bring that service to more people.
St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano added his own comments, saying he was excited to see the now-familiar spools of the company’s fiber optic cables being installed around the city.
“Fast and dependable internet is an essential component to today’s economy – we rely on it for work, school, entertainment and connection,” Pagano said. “Having a local company build and manage a high-speed network gives the city of St. Peters an advantage when people choose a place to live or grow a business. I’m excited to see work begin on this project.”
