A gas leak near Rebecca Boone Elementary School Wednesday afternoon caused the school district to quickly organize an alternate pickup plan for students.Ameren UE contacted the Warren County R-III School District before noon to inform them of a gas leak on Lou Gunther Street just west of the school, Assistant Superintendent Aaron Jones said in an email.Jones said the students were not in any danger, but out of an abundance of caution, all student pickups and bus loading would be done on Pinckney Street on the east side of the school.Wednesday was already planned as an early release day because it was the last day of the school year. The students left the school starting around 12:30.Truesdale police officers assisted to quickly organize traffic control for parents coming to pick up their children, who were released from the school in groups.Officer Casey Doyle said Ameren employees had the leaked under control, but would be working most of the day to repair the gas line.

Students wait in a group outside Rebecca Boone Elementary as parents' vehicles line up on Pinckney Street to pick them up Wednesday, May 23. Pickup procedure for the school was quickly altered that day because of a nearby gas leak.
