Gant Removed as County Planning and Zoning Officer

The Warren County Commission is searching for a new planning and zoning enforcement officer. Linda Gant resigned around three weeks ago after being asked to step down by the commission. She had been employed with the county for more than four years. Gant's last day was Nov. 19. The commission voted 3-0 in a closed session to end Gant's employment. She did not attend that evening's planning and zoning commission meeting. "She was asked to resign," Southern District Commissioner Hubie Kluesner confirmed. The commission refused to discuss specifics about Gant's situation. "That is a personnel issue and we're not allowed to comment," Northern District Commissioner Dan Hampson said. Gant was being paid $14 an hour, or approximately $26,880 annually. Prior to her promotion as planning and zoning enforcement officer in March 2008, she was the receptionist in the same office. She began working for the county in January 2005 in the recorder of deeds office. Commissioners hope to fill the vacancy soon. Applications were due Dec. 7 and reviewed that same day. Kluesner said a hiring will be made "as soon as we can get through the applications and determine who will be the best for the position." In the meantime, planning and zoning issues will be made by the commissioners with the assistance of planning and zoning secretary Debbie Brakemeyer. The planning and zoning officer is responsible for coordinating zoning requests and finalizing permits and enforcing county zoning ordinances. Gant could not be reached for comment.
