Incumbent Deborah L. Engemann is being challenged by Linda J. Gant for the office of Warren County Recorder of Deeds.
This position is a four-year term.
Both candidates are running as Republicans. Because there are no candidates from other political parties, the winner on Aug. 7 will take office in 2019.
Deborah L. Engemann
Engemann, of Marthasville, holds the position and is running for re-election.
“I would like to continue to service and help citizens of Warren County in any land transaction or information on property that they own or are thinking about owning,” said Engemann.
She is a member of Marthasville Community Club, Marthasville American Legion Post 180 Ladies Auxiliary and serves as chairman for the Marthasville American Legion Bingo.
Engemann said the office was running smoothly when she arrived and has not made many changes with the day to day operations. She did oversee other needed changes.
“We went through a change of location and moved in May 2012, which was a major project,” she said. “We have upgraded computers and (made) program changes and I have added a wide-format scanner/printer. We are presently working on some new software updated to our computer program and adding e-recording of documents.”
Engemann’s husband David works as a farm laborer at Rehmeier Farm.
Linda J. Gant
Linda J. Gant, of Warrenton, is an administrative assistant for the Warrenton Fire Protection District.
She is running for office because she wants to be more involved in local government.
“I have 30-plus years of administrative experience in both the public and private sector, including 14 years in the municipal arena. I previously worked as the deputy clerk for the Warren County Recorder of Deeds office. I performed all the duties associated the Recorders office on a daily basis and saw this as the perfect opportunity to utilize my existing skills,” Gant said.
She serves on the board of directors for Warren County Joint Communications. She has volunteered for the March of Dimes and the Warren County BackStoppers Committee.
“My first order of business would be to meet with the clerks and the abstractors to evaluate what changes they would like to see,” said Gant. “I would research options to implement the steps that prove to be the most beneficial and cost-effective. For example, it is quite expensive to view and retrieve documents online. I would like to make viewing records more affordable. I would continually look for ways to streamline procedures where advantageous.”
