AARP tax aide volunteers will prepare tax returns for senior citizens and low-income residents at the Warren County Fire Protetection District firehouse on Fairgrounds Road in Warrenton every Tuesday, beginning Feb. 4 through April 8.Volunteers are trained to prepare simple tax forms. Taxpayers with complex tax returns or instances where the counselor feels they do not have adequate training or knowledge will be advised to seek paid tax assistance. This service is offered free of charge by AARP using IRS provided tax-preparation software. Tax returns are filed electronically for Federal returns and most State returns. You do not need to be a member of AARP to benefit from this service.All persons seeking federal/State 1040 assistance should bring the following:Last year’s Federal and State tax returnsAll W2s, 1099s (interest, dividends, pensions, IRA disbursements, stock sales …)1098s (mortgage, interest, brokerage, student expenses)Social Security or railroad retirement statementsUnemployment compensation statementsSocial Security cards for everyone, including children and/or other dependentsBasis for any stock sales (purchase date and cost)Alimony received or paid for the year, if applicable.Forms and canceled checks indicating federal and state income tax paid (including quarterly estimated tax payments).If married and filing separately bring spouse’s Social Security number; if spouse is itemizing expenses, bring concise list of spouse’s expenses.Concise list of expenses if you wish to itemizeProperty tax recordsGovernment photo IDs for adultsFor the “Property Tax Credit/Circuit Breaker” be sure to bring:Your paid real estate tax receiptIncome statementsIf renting, bring annual rent statement identifying your landlord’s name, address, and tax ID number.Mobile home owners, if they also have a car, they may need to obtain a Form 948 from the county assessor, and bring it along with a personal property tax receipt.Also, if you own more than 5 acres, or more than one city lot, you must obtain the Form 948 showing the tax allocated for each parcel.What forms will NOT be prepared?Schedule C (if expenses are $10,000 or more)Forms 2106 (employee business expense), 3903 (moving), and 8615 (minor’s investment income)Farm rents or complicated or advanced Schedule D’sWe don’t do any forms with depreciation.For an appointment,call (636) 465-1452.
