College United Methodist Church, 701 E. Booneslick Road in Warrenton, is having a free clothing closet starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.The store will likely be open until 1 p.m.Church member Kim Brutsman, Warrenton, helped organized the event. Brutsman said there will be areas for men’s, women’s and kid’s items. Shoppers will also find shoes, purses, new socks, new underwear; hats, gloves, coats, etc.The clothing closet is open to Warren County residents, and everything is free.Brutsman said items were donated by churches and individuals in the community and surrounding areas.“Most of the clothing is in really good condition,” Brutsman said. “I tell people if it’s something you wouldn’t want to wear or you wouldn’t want your children to wear, we can take it to Agape or recycle it.”The is the sixth year of the annual event.“When we first started it was all on tables,” Brutsman recalled. “For the past couple years, we’ve had clothing racks.”Clothing is not organized by size but volunteers will be on site to assist shoppers. This year shoppers can enter a giveway.“We also have a bike giveaway. We have two kids bikes and two adult bikes,” said Brutsman. “They fill out a form. At the end of the day, we draw the names, call the people and they pick up their bikes.”The bikes are donated. Repairs, if needed, are made before they are offered to the public.
