By Tim SchmidtRecord Managing EditorNewly appointed Warrenton Ward 2 Alderman Damion Frederick believes he brings a view that has been largely unheard in city politics. It’s the voice of a young parent and business owner.“I am interested in bringing my perspective and that of my constituents who are similar to me a voice,” Frederick said. “It’s a family thing for me. I am looking for a way to make Warrenton better for families, whether it’s easier for businesses to choose Warrenton or to increase offerings that the parks department has for the kids who are here.”Aldermen voted 4-1 last week to appoint Frederick to fill the board vacancy, following the recommendation from Mayor Eric Schleuter. The Ward 2 seat had been vacant since the April municipal election when Schleuter won a three-way race for mayor.Frederick will serve the final year of the unexpired two-year term. He will be sworn in at the next meeting May 19.Frederick was among seven or eight people who expressed interest or were mentioned by other aldermen in filling the open seat, Schleuter said.“He is an independent thinker with ties to the town and he is young,” Schleuter told The Record. “People are wanting younger input.”Frederick is currently employed in tech support for a computer software company in Lake Saint Louis. He and wife, Charity, currently own Gateway Consulting in Warrenton and formerly owned two other businesses, SunSeekers Tanning Salon and Warrenton Wireless.Frederick said he always has been interested in local politics. He ran and lost a bid for mayor several years ago.“I understand what a growing family in this community goes through, as a business owner and homeowner,” Frederick said.Ward 3 Alderman Jim Dreyer was the lone board member to vote against the appointment, commenting that he didn’t know Frederick.Frederick appointed to fill Warrenton Ward 2 seat
