Four Warriors place in top four at sectionals, qualify for state

Warrenton will send four athletes to this weekend’s state track and field meet in Jefferson City.
Warrenton competed in Monday’s Class 4, Sectional 2 meet at Mexico High School. Four athletes finished in the top-four of their competition to advance to the state meet, which will be held May 27-28 in Jefferson City.
Madelyn Marschel was the top finisher among all Warrenton athletes in Monday’s sectional competition. Marschel finshed second place in the 800-meter run. She finished the race in 2:30.63.
Garneisha Love placed third in the long jump. She jumped 4.85 meters.
Wyatt Claiborne finished third in the 1,600 meter run. The sophomore finished the race in 4:42.
Kolby Meine finished fourth in the triple jump to advance to the state tournament. He jumped 12.36 meters.
“Those four competed their way through a very tough competition to earn a spot in the top four in their events,” Warrenton track and field coach Mark Thomas said.
Thomas hopes the four athletes who qualified for the state meet enjoy the honor and experience of being in the field of 16 athletes to qualify for state in their event.
The Warriors had 13 athletes compete in 17 events at the sectional meet. Athletes needed to place in the top-four at districts to advance to the sectional meet.
Three Warrenton athletes were one spot short of advancing to the state tournament.
Morgan Marschel placed fifth in the 400-meter dash. She finished the race in 1:00.51. Teammate Avery Shaw placed fifth in the shot put competition. She threw the shot 9.87 meters. Colton Brosenne placed fifth in the triple jump. He jumped 12.19 meters. Brosenne also competed in the long jump competition. He jumped 5.33 meters.
The Warriors registered three sixth place finishes at the sectional competition. Kylie Overkamp finished sixth in the 100-meter dash. She finished the race in 13:35. Phillip Kackley placed sixth in the 1,600-meter run. Kackley finished the race in 4:51.97. Claiborne finished sixth in the 3,200-meter run. He finished the race in 10:43.74.
Meine also competed at sectionals in the javelin and as part of the 4x200-meter relay team. Meine, William Reel, Joseph Evans and Zachariah Bristol placed seventh in the relay race. They finished with a time of 1:34.60. Meine threw the javelin 35.26 meters.
Joseph Evans competed in the high jump. He jumped 1.78 meters. Bristol competed in the 200-meter dash. He ran the race in 24.01.
The Lady Warriors competed in two relay races at the sectional meet. They finished the 4x100-relay race in 52.45. Listed runners in the relay were Evangeline Rhama, Dana Pruitt, Love and Overkamp. They finished the 4x400-meter relay race in 4:32.07. Listed runners were Madelyn Marschel, Loren Howard, Isabelle Morris and Morgan Marschel.
“The coaching staff is very proud of our entire team this season, and especially proud of those who competed at the sectional meet,” Thomas said. “They left it all on the track, field, runways and sand. That is all we can ask for.”
The state track and field meet will take place at Adkins Stadium on the Jefferson City High School campus.
Marschel will compete in the 800-meter run finals at 4 p.m. Friday. Claiborne will compete in the 1,600-meter run finals at 12:35 p.m. Saturday.
Meine will compete in the triple jump competition at 1 p.m. Friday.
Love will compete in the long jump competition at 4 p.m. Friday.
