Four Warriors earn postseason volleyball honors

After a season of history, the Warrenton boys’ volleyball team is now reaping the rewards.

In just the program’s second year of existence, the Warriors finished at .500 – 11-11-1 – and had plenty of representation on the Gateway Athletic Conference’s all-conference teams, as well as the postseason all-district team.

Four players earned honors for their respective play between the regular season and making the semifinals of the Class 1 District 5 tournament.

Senior Teegan Williams earned first-team all-conference as well as second-team all-district recognition.

“After putting in all the work we did and seeing these (awards) at the end of the season, it has been super rewarding,” Williams said. “With the countless hours in the gym and learning everything we could about the game, it really paid off. I’m super excited to see what the future holds for us.”

Williams, an outside hitter who, along with teammates Brayden Brown and Kaleb Lauck, signed with Missouri Baptist to continue their volleyball careers in college, finished the season in the top 10 in the area in kills per game, as his 289 kills led to an average of 3.91 per game. He also added 13 blocks and 194 digs.

Like Williams, sophomore Lucas Payne also earned a high honor as he was selected to the first-team all-district squad.

This season, Payne – who played right side – recorded 154 kills, 12 blocks and 153 digs.

“Getting all-district as a sophomore was a huge accomplishment for me,” Payne said. “(It is) a huge step in my career and it shows I can go further if I strive for it and work hard.”

Warrenton Coach Jake Brown said that both players were completely deserving of their respective honors.

After all, he’s had plenty of time to get to know both.

“Both Teegan and Lucas are great kids on and off the court,” Brown said. “They both made huge improvements. Teegan and I had over 120 bus rides between soccer and volleyball.”

The other Warrenton volleyball players to receive postseason recognition were senior Brayden Brown and sophomore Matthew Faubion.

Both players were named second-team all-district.

This season, Brown, the team’s libero, recorded 303 digs while Faubion, the team’s setter, recorded 475 assists and 21 blocks.

The assist total put him among the top 25 in the metro area in the category.
