Four Warrenton track and field athletes competed in this weekend’s Missouri state track and field competition.
Wyatt Claiborne, Garneisha Love, Madelyn Marschel and Kolby Meine competed in this weekend’s state meet. This was Marschel’s second year competing at the state meet. Claiborne, Love and Meine competed at the state meet for the first time this season.
Warrenton track and field coach Mark Thomas noted the competition level at the state meet, the restrictions and the adjustment for the athletes to not have a coach right next to them.
“The state meet is like nothing any athlete has seen before they’ve been there and experienced it,” Thomas said. “It can be overwhelming.”
Love and Meine competed in field events. Love competed in the Class 4 long jump competition. She jumped 4.25 meters. Love recorded her best jump on her third and final attempt.
Meine competed in the Class 4 triple jump competition. Meine jumped 12.55 meters. He registered his best jump on his first attempt.
Claiborne and Marschel competed in final races. Claiborne competed in the 1,600-meter run. Claiborne finished the race in 4:45.48.
Marschel competed in the 800-meter run. She finished the race with a time of 2:35.55.
“We are proud of the way the kids performed while they were there,” Thomas said. “It may not be in the mark or time they jumped or ran, but they all had good spirits. They were ready to compete and embraced the mental challenge that comes with the state meet.”
