A four-vehicle crash on Highway 47 near Dutzow Thursday, Oct. 12, had the highway shut down for a short time, caused extensive damage to two vehicles and left one driver with minor injuries.
The crash happened between Augusta Bottom Road and the Highway 94 intersection at 4:25 p.m., according to a preliminary report from the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Driver Jennifer Metz, 45, of Foley, was taken to Mercy Hospital Washington.
Metz was northbound on 47 in a Kia Sportage and did not observe vehicles stopped ahead of her, according to the patrol. The Sportage swerved left, striking the rear of a vehicle in the northbound lane, before colliding head-on with a southbound Ford F250 driven by David Sullivan, 44, of St. Clair.
A fourth vehicle was then also impacted by the Sportage.
Sullivan did not have reported injuries. He and Metz were both wearing seat belts. The other two drivers involved also were uninjured.
The Sportage and the F-250 sustained extensive damage in the crash and had to be towed from the scene.
Emergency responders at the crash had Highway 47 partially or completely shut down for more than 30 minutes while they aided the drivers and cleared the wrecked vehicles from the road.
Because of the shutdown and traffic, an ambulance being called from Washington to respond to a possible allergic reaction of a child in the Concord Hill area was blocked. A second ambulance was called to respond from Warrenton.
