A former teacher in the Wright City R-II School District is accused of texting a former student and suggesting she engage in sexual activities with him.
Andrew Flett, 33, of St. Peters, was arrested on Nov. 27 and charged with attempted sexual contact with a student, a misdemeanor.
According to court filings, the alleged contact between Flett and the victim occurred between Nov. 1 and 24.
St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office Spokesperson Katie Rickerson said the probable cause statement for Flett's arrest had not yet been released to the public as the investigation was ongoing.
She was not able to reveal any additional information about the victim other than that she was a minor.
Wright City R-II Superindendent Amy Salvo also released a statement on Flett's arrest.
"We were deeply troubled to receive the news from the Wright City Police Department that a former employee of the Wright City R-II School District, who was employed with the district from August 2018 to June 2022, is being charged with inappropriate attempted relations involving a student. At this time, no information has been reported to suggest that any of our students have been impacted. Please know that we have and will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. If anyone has any information regarding this matter, we encourage them to contact the Wright City Police Department," said Salvo.
Rickerson said Flett has posted bond and is no longer in custody although he is under surveillance by the court. He is not allowed to contact the victim or have any unsupervised contact with a minor, nor can he work or volunteer in any capacity where he would have authority over a minor.
According to Rickerson, Flett had been teaching at a private school in St. Louis County. He also previously taught in the Montgomery County R-II School District in Montgomery City from 2016-2018 and at Salem Middle School from 2014-2015, according to media reports.
A hearing date has not been set for this case.
