Record Managing EditorThe former owner of a Wright City smoke shop received a suspended prison sentence and was granted probation last week.Jason Edge, 42, of Montgomery City, pleaded guilty to 11 felony drug charges during a court appearance April 7. He received a suspended eight-year sentence and was placed on five years of probation, according to Warren County Prosecuting Attorney Kelly King. As part of Edge’s probation requirements, he will serve 60 days of shock time.Edge previously pleaded not guilty to 10 felony counts for possession with the intent to sell drug paraphernalia and one count of drug possession. He changed his plea last week.He is the former owner of the White Rabbit, a smoke shop that was open for a short time in Wright City.Edge was arrested Sept. 13, 2012, after members of the East Central Missouri Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the store. Police said they seized numerous items commonly used as drug paraphernalia, such as pipes, bongs, concealment devices and digital scales.On two separate occasions in August 2012, undercover officers visited the store and purchased devices to conceal and smoke marijuana, according to the probable cause statement.The same day Edge was arrested police searched his home in Montgomery City. According to reports, authorities discovered a large quantity of synthetic marijuana and synthetic methamphetamine/cocaine, along with glass pipes and other drug paraphernalia.Earlier this year, Edge pleaded guilty to two felony drug charges in Audrain County Circuit Court on a change of venue from Montgomery County. He received a suspended prison sentence and was ordered to enroll in a 120-day program for drug and alcohol abuse.When Edge applied for a business license in 2011, dozens of Wright City residents objected to the store. Much of the opposition focused on the sexually-oriented items that Edge planned to sell, though some expressed concerns that the business could lead to increased drug activity in the community.Jason Edge
