Updated 12/19/2018Former Marthasville Police Chief Euen “Gene” Jenkins was charged Dec. 6 in Warren County Circuit Court with seven misdemeanor counts of misusing information from a police database. The charges of “misuse of official information by a public servant” arise from a Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation. In charging documents, the patrol alleges that while working for Marthasville police, Jenkins made inappropriate use of the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) to search for information about individuals without official cause.“Upon interviewing individuals whose names were run by Jenkins, all denied being stopped or having direct contact requiring Jenkins to access their information,” the patrol stated in a report. The information of four individuals was accessed a combined 17 times during the reported time frame.Jenkins serves on the Marthasville Board of Aldermen.Jenkins lost his position as Marthasville police chief in May 2017, when the board of aldermen voted to dissolve the police department. Jenkins was elected to the Marthasville Board of Aldermen in April 2018.Marthasville Mayor David Lange declined to comment for this story because it involves a legal matter.Jenkins also had been working as a police officer in Wright City since 2014. Wright City Police Chief Matt Eskew on Dec. 17 said Jenkins had resigned.Eskew said after communicating with the highway patrol, there is no concern that any records had been misused during Jenkins’ employment with the Wright City Police Department. The court case is being handled by Pike County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alex Ellison, who was brought in as a special prosecutor to avoid conflicts of interest, according to the circuit court clerk’s office.
