Flake was nominated by Ward 1 Alderman Jerry Cullom and the nomination was seconded by Ward 2 Alderman Beth Kendall. The motion was approved by a 5-0 vote. Flake abstained. "I want to thank everyone for their vote of confidence," Flake said. "I will try to do the best job I can for the city." Incoming Mayor Greg Costello and three aldermen elected in last week's municipal election were also sworn into office during Tuesday's meeting. Also sworn in Tuesday were Ward 3 Alderman James Dreyer, who is serving his first term of office, and incumbents Flake and Cullom. Costello also announced appointments to the board of aldermen committees for the coming year. Named to the ways and means committee were Flake (chairman), Kendall and Ward 1 Alderman Phil Tallo. Kendall (chairman), Flake and Cullom were named to the police and personnel committee while Ward 3 Alderman John Clark (chairman), Flake and Dreyer will comprise the water and sewer committee. The streets, sidewalks and streetlights committee will be chaired by Flake with Cullom and Clark also serving. The recreation committee will be chaired by Tallo with Kendall and Dreyer also appointed. Cullom will chair the grounds and cemetery committee with Tallo and Clark also serving. Flake was appointed as the aldermanic representative to the city's planning and zoning commission. Tallo will serve as the representative to the park board.
