Five Warrenton wrestlers registered first place finishes at the Ft. Zumwalt South Invitational this past weekend.
Jeremiah Kassing, Joshua Kassing, Anthony Lombardo, Manny McCauley and Jacob Ruff each won their weight class. Noah Lohrmann placed second for the Warriors in his weight class.
Joshua Kassing and Ruff each went 5-0 in the tournament to win their weight classes. Wrestling in the 120-pound weight class, Kassing won four of his five matches by fall. Kassing pinned Dalton Nochta of Owensville, Layne Schone of Troy Buchanan, Camron Minner of Collinsville and Liam McAuliffe of Eureka. Kassing beat Nick Baker of Ft. Zumwalt South on a 9-5 decision.
Ruff pinned Jake Coll of Ft. Zumwalt South, Landon Brown of Owensville and Vinston Springfield of Collinsville in the opening round of matches to advance to the championship bracket. Ruff pinned Reece Ahrens of Oakville in 2:13 to advance to the championship match. Ruff beat Nick Bova of Troy Buchanan on a 5-2 decision in the finals of the 190-pound weight class. .
Lombardo, McCauley and Jeremiah Kassing each went 4-0 to win their weight classes. Wrestling in the 157-pound weight class, Lombardo beat Kyle Blair of Owensville and Aden Davis of Oakville in his first two matches of the day. After beating Koen Erickson of Ft. Zumwalt South on a 5-1 decision in the semifinals, Lombardo beat Caden Goustetis of Eureka on a 9-2 decision to win the weight class.
McCauley beat all four of his opponents by technical fall to win the 106-pound weight class. He beat Kailer Stephens of Troy Buchanan, Kanyon Shurtz of Ft. Zumwalt South, Jordan Thigpen of Collinsville and Connor Stephans of Eureka.
Wrestling in the 113-pound weight class, Kassing beat Cason Farmer of the Ft. Zumwalt South junior varsity team, Joshua Bayer of Oakville, Mason Hare of Collinsville and Benjamin Rush of Ft. Zumwalt South. Kassing pinned Farmer and Rush. He earned a major decision win over Hare and beat Bayer on a technical fall 17-2.
Lohrmann went 4-1 in the 126-pound weight class to earn a second place finish. Lohrmann beat Gokkhan Yurdanidze of Oakville, Tyler Minner of Collinsville, Ryan Poropat of the Ft. Zumwalt South junior varsity team and Micah Land of Troy Buchanan. Lohrmann’s lone loss of the tournament came to Zack Tihen of Ft. Zumwalt South.
Warrenton finished the tournament with 126 points. They finished in fourth place as a team.
The Warriors will compete at the Warrenton Tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday.
