The first positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Warren County, according to the county health department.
Health department officials released information about the case Thursday afternoon, March 26. The identity and personal information about the patient remain confidential.
The health department is in contact with the patient and is working to ensure they remain isolated according to guidelines from the Department of Health and Senior Services and the Centers for Disease Control. People who have been in close contact with the patient are being identified and monitored for symptoms, the health department said.
“It is important that each and every one of us continue to practice basic preventative measures to help decrease the spread,” which includes “avoiding contact with people who are sick, practice social distancing with at least 6 feet, covering coughs and sneezes, proper hand washing, cleaning frequently used surfaces, and staying home when sick,” the health department said.
The Warren County Health Department is monitoring the COVID-19 situation and taking precautions to limit the spread of the virus, the department said Thursday. As more cases become known, updated information will be posted to the health department’s Facebook page.
If anyone from the public suspects they have COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, they should call their healthcare provider before seeking care.
