Fireworks will light up the sky over the Warren County Fairgrounds this week.Fair organizers are thrilled to have a display this Friday, July 4, following a one-year absence. The fireworks are being sponsored by the city of Warrenton, which agreed to underwrite the expenses of the show. In the past, the city and Fair Board split the cost of the display but the Fair’s financial difficulties led to the show being eliminated last year. The city will spend $10,000 for the show. Funding will come from the city’s tourism budget.Paul Owenby, Fair Board president, said he is appreciative of the city’s sponsorship of the fireworks show, which will begin at dusk.“I think that is a great deal,” he said. “We are thankful they are putting on that display for us.”The Warren County Fair has gotten off to a strong start this week, with a big turnout for Sunday’s parade and Tuesday night’s queen coronation. The Fair concludes Saturday, July 5.All events are being held at the fairgrounds, located on North Highway 47 in Warrenton.Organizers are inviting the public to attend and enjoy the entertainment that is being offered, including carnival rides and nightly entertainment. On Thursday night, the truck and tractor pull will start at 6:30 p.m., along with BMX races. The bike races are open to anyone 10 years and older.Owenby said the BMX races are a new event this year, an opportunity to hopefully draw a nice crowd.“I think it’s a neat deal,” Owenby said. “We hope it brings in some parents, grandparents. It’s something different. We have a facility that can be used for more than jumping. I think it’s a win-win deal.”Also on Thursday, the livestock buyer’s dinner will be held at 5 p.m., with the livestock auction to start at 7 p.m.Friday’s lineup includes two shows hosted by the Ozark Rodeo Association at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The demotion derby will start at 6 p.m.On Saturday, activities begin with a baby show at 10 a.m., a goat costume show at 11 a.m., kids games at noon and a pedal tractor pull at 2 p.m..
