When a warehouse fire destroyed hundreds of toys intended for patients of the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis, the Wright City Fire Protection District decided to do something about it. 

The Wright City Fire District is holding a toy drive to help replace some of the lost toys. They are asking the community to help by bringing new and gently used toys to the Wright City Fire Protection District Station 1, 396 W. Second St. N. or the Dollar General at 441 N. Service Road, both in Wright City. 

The most requested donation items are fleece tie blankets and small lap quilts. Other desired items include board games, hair and nail care kits, make up kits, male gift sets of Axe or Adidas, adult size sports team apparel, musical toys, dolls, crayons, at supplies, Legos, playing cards, jewelry, bath and body sets, gift cards to Target or Walmart, light up toys, plush animals, Matchbox and Hot Wheels card, backpacks and sports bags. 

The deadline 5 p.m. Friday, Dec 1. The toys will be delivered to Shiners by Dec. 10, the date of a Christmas party the Shriners are holding for 1,500 children and their families. 

It has been reported that toys that were destroyed in the Nov. 15 warehouse fire at 3937 Park Avenue in south St. Louis, were gifts for kids at that party. 

Shriners Hospital for Children is located at 4400 Clayton Ave. in St. Louis.

The Wright City Fire Protection District takes on extra charity work each year during the holidays. Officials said when they heard about a fire destroying donations for Shriners beneficiaries, they wanted to help.
