A fire that started in an attached garage quickly spread to the main structure and destroyed a home in Innsbrook June 8.The homeowner had called 911 to report that his lawnmower was on fire and that it was spreading to the garage. When firefighters arrived at the scene around 5:25 p.m. the entire home was in flames, Wright City Assistant Fire Chief Josh Riebe said. The fire had spread along the floor of the garage to the underside of the house, where it quickly enveloped the entire structure, he said.Riebe explained that many of the homes in the Innsbrook area are built above ground level with open space beneath them. Due to the design, fire spreads more quickly beneath the structure, cutting several minutes off the time before a house is fully involved, he said.Multiple fire protection districts responded to the blaze, but the house was a total loss. Crews contained the flames and stayed at the scene until after 10 p.m. for overhaul, which is when firefighters search for any residual embers and ensure that the fire is completely extinguished.
