A fire damaged a home on Hillview Court in the Woodridge Lake Estates subdivision Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 3.Firefighters responders to a report of a home with smoke and flames showing a little after 4 p.m. Two rooms and a closet suffered flame and heat damage, with smoke damage to those and other rooms throughout the house. Smoke and heat also damaged parts of the exteriorThe fire was out by 4:45, with firefighters remaining to monitor the scene. Warrenton Fire Chief Mike Owenby said the cause of the fire is believed to be the remains of a candle discarded into a trash can. The fire began in a master bedroom and spread to an attached bathroom and closet.Owenby said once the fire was out there was less structural damage than he expected, due in part to a quick response time and equipment on a newer truck the department purchased last year.Firefighters from Marthasville, Wright City, Wentzville and Hawk Point also responded to the fire, Owenby said.
