"We've been going over a lot of odds and ends," said Roger Owenby, Fair Board president. "We want to make the fairgrounds presentable for the community." This year's Fair runs Sunday, June 28, through Saturday, July 4. The theme is "Your Fair, Your Way." Unlike recent Fairs, this year's event will feature a one-price admission meaning carnival rides are included. Depending on the nightly entertainment, daily admission ranges from $12 to $18 for adults (13 and over) and $8 to $12 for children (ages 4-12). A season pass is $35. Carnival rides won't be free, however, on the first day of the Fair June 28 when all admission fees are waived. Also new this year is the livestock show being expanded to include goats and chickens. It's the first year entries are being accepted in these areas, according to Owenby. A slight change also is being made in the beer garden. Tickets can be purchased at anytime and be used throughout the week. In the past, tickets were different colors for each day and had to be used. "You can buy tickets on Sunday and use them throughout the week," Owenby said. In addition, active military personnel can show their ID badges at the Fair office and receive a free meal ticket on Saturday, July 4. This year's festivities will kick off June 28 with the parade at 4 p.m., followed by the queen coronation at 7 p.m. The Kentucky Headhunters is this year's featured entertainment. The nationally known country group will perform Friday, July 3, at approximately 9 p.m. Butch Wax and The Hollywoods will open at 7:30 p.m. "I am very satisfied with the entertainment," Owenby said. "They're not the big names, but they should put on a good show. It's going to be a good time." Live entertainment will be featured in the beer garden area nightly. A karaoke contest is scheduled in the beer garden Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. Other entertainment includes motocross (June 30, 8 p.m.), mini rod, super smoker and garden tractor pull (July 1, 8 p.m.), demolition derby (July 2, 7 p.m.), rodeo (July 2, 8 p.m.; July 3, 7:30 p.m.), and truck and tractor pull (July 4, 7:30 p.m.). The livestock buyer's dinner is scheduled for July 2 at 5:30 p.m. The baby show is slated for July 4 at 10 a.m. Other activities on July 4 include the greased pig contest, sand volleyball tournament, washer tournament and other kids' games. "We want to have the friendliest Fair," Owenby said. "We want everyone to come out and have fun."
