It's Homecoming week at Warrenton High School.
Beginning with the annual parade and powderpuff football games on Sunday and running through the Homecoming dance Saturday, this week continues to be full of activities.
Marcus Greene, a junior lineman for the Warriors football team, said that the community spirit, in conjunction with the variety of activities, is important for the school and the city.
"It's a lot of fun and spirit," Greene said. "The parade and Powderpuff game bring the community out and it's a lot of fun. It helps to bring the community together."
Throughout the week, a spirit competition between the classes at the high school for participating in dress-up days, activities and pep assembly contest wins and behavior will crown a class champion.
Also, there will be a schoolwide 'rock, paper, scissors' competition on Thursday and 'Penny Wars' will continue throughout the week.
The pep assembly for students at the high school, which is not open to the public, will take place on Friday afternoon.
Warrenton (4-2) will take on GAC North rival St. Charles at 7 p.m. Friday in the Homecoming game. The game's theme is 'pink out' and, at halftime, the Homecoming King and Queen will be announced.
The Warriors defeated Orchard Farm 42-21 at last year's game.
Senior defensive back/wide receiver Deadrick Forrest said, "Spirit week brings us all together as a community. The parade gets the town involved in homecoming. It helps us – the team – know that there's someone behind us, helping us all the way through, even after a loss last Friday. It shows involvement in the school and it's nice to have a community supporting us."
The annual Homecoming dance will cap off the week. It will occur on Saturday from 7-10 p.m.
