Ferrell, Elsenrath, Wilson earn all-district honors for Wright City

In having two of the top scorers and one of the top defenders in the region as the team’s backbone, the Wright City girls’ soccer team posted a single-season record for wins.

Not only did the Wildcats (18-6) make plenty of news as a team, but the trio – junior forward Ada Ferrell, junior defender Olivia Wilson and freshman midfielder Haley Elsenrath – earned Class 2 District 4 all-district honors for their play.

“Being all-district is such an honor,” Ferrell said. “It shows that all of the hard work and effort put into soccer pays off. I am very blessed to have had such an amazing season and I’m happy with how it ended.”

Ferrell amassed 26 goals and 11 assists for 63 points. She also tallied a team-high seven game-winning goals.

Wright City Coach Tori Harris said that it was fun to watch Ferrell grow as a player throughout the season.

“Ada built her confidence this year and showed up for us; it was amazing to see,” Harris said. “She utilized her speed against defenders, caused disruption on their backlines, and was able to find the back of the net.”

Like Ferrell, Elsenrath burst onto the scene and helped propel the Wildcats with not only her nose for goal, but her ability to put a teammate in the right spot to score.

Not only did she have 38 goals, but she also added 22 assists.

Six of her goals were game-winning tallies.

“I am very grateful for this accomplishment,” Elsenrath said. “However, this is only possible with our team pushing me and helping me become a better player and teammate throughout the season.”

Harris said that Elsenrath’s five goals before the end of March were a sign of the good things to come from her, the coach said.

“Haley made a huge impact for us right off the bat, and she was only a freshman,” Harris said. “I am really excited to see what the next three years have in store for her.”

While the pair's combined 64 goals did plenty to help Wright City offset the graduation loss of 100-goal scorer Paige Kirn, junior Olivia Wilson’s efforts strengthened a defense that allowed just an average of 1.1 goals per game.

She was the third member to make the all-district team this season.

Harris said that Wilson’s leadership was evident daily in the Wildcats’ defense. The coach added that she even provided the team with needed offensive sparks from time to time.

“Olivia was a consistent, solid defender for us on the backline, saving us multiple times,” Harris said. “She ended the season with four goals and two assists. All four of the goals (came) off of a corner from Haley.”

Harris added that, with each member of the trio set to return next season, the coach can’t wait for the spring of 2027 to arrive.

“I am very happy for the girls who received all district,” Harris said. “Each of them is extremely deserving of this recognition for their hard work throughout the entire season. I couldn’t have asked for more from them. (I’m) excited and ready for next season.”
