The Wright City girls' basketball team fell into an old pattern on Thursday.
This time, though, it came in a close game, and it ultimately cost the Wildcats a victory.
Up by a point over Veritas Christian at halftime, the Wright City offense went ice cold, scoring just six second-half points in the 47-22 loss in the teams’ seventh-place game at the Orchard Farm Tournament.
Ada Ferrell, who was named to the all-tournament team for her play, lamented the rough patch that, once again, did the team in.

“We always have that one quarter where we fall short, we just dig ourselves a hole,” Ferrell said. “We did really good about coming out strong but (we needed to) keep that strength, but we didn’t.”
Wright City (1-7) led the game 16-15 at the half behind five points from Ferrell and four each from senior Abby Schanuel and junior Alexis Hogan. At the same time, the Wildcats’ defense held Veritas’ leading scorer, sophomore Addie Murrell, to six points.
In the end, it was a Kaitlyn Mikus layup in the final minute of the half to send the Wildcats to the locker room with the advantage.
The short-handed squad jumped to the lead without senior Shiriah McRoberts, who sat out the game with a calf injury.
Wildcats coach Dustin Elledge said the hope is that McRoberts will have the chance to heal during the team’s Christmas break.
“She went out with a leg injury in our first game against Jeseyville. It’s been bothering her,” Elledge said. “We’ll, hopefully, get her and get everyone healed up a little bit. We’ll have 10 days now before we do it (take to the court) again.”
As Ferrell said, the lead didn’t last, though.
Murrell scored 10 third-quarter points and had 15 of her game-high 21 in the second half.
Ferrell led Wright City with nine points while Hogan added six and Schanuel five.
