Warrenton police say an argument among family members became violent following a dispute over a baby.Joe A. Everson Jr., 29, Warrenton, was arrested July 21 and charged with second-degree domestic assault. Authorities accuse him of choking a woman at his apartment on Cordova Court.According to police, officers were dispatched to the residence at about 3:45 p.m. for a domestic assault. An officer spoke with a woman who said she and Everson had been in a dispute about there being too many people in the apartment, according to an arrest report. During the argument Everson reportedly was holding a 9-month-old child.A third person at the residence took the child to move her away from the fighting, police said. Police said Everson became upset and tried to get the child back by grabbing the person holding her.The first woman reportedly pushed Everson away from the child and pushed him onto a couch. Police allege Everson rose and pushed the woman to the floor, then got on top of her and began to choke her. The woman struck Everson until he released her and went to a different room, police said.An officer observed redness and swelling on the woman’s neck, according to the arrest report.Everson received an initial court hearing July 23 in Warren County Circuit Court, and was released from custody pending future court proceedings.
