Enough with the “good ole boys”

To The Editor: I have been a conservative for the majority of my 57 voting years and I will remain a conservative, thus you could call me a Republican probably. My conservative views have not changed but times do change. After having read (former U.S. Sen.) John Danforth’s editorial in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Sunday about President Trump, I felt it was my responsibility to respond. I have for many years considered Danforth to be one of the “good ole boys,” which I have thought was deplorable, as the “good ole boys” help no one but themselves and their cohorts.President Donald Trump was elected by a majority in the primary and general elections in Missouri, so that must be meaningful. Missourians are not stupid, as some of our Democrat and Republican politicians believe. Missourians are getting tired of the status quo as their rights are being taken away.I agree with Danforth that the Constitution must be preserved in its original form. But I disagree with him about who is trying to usurp the Constitution.Since Democrats are moving us toward socialism, I consider them to be the culprits as socialism has no place in our Constitution. This is not the first time Danforth has come down on a conservative and probably not the last time. Now you must ask yourself what he has done to preserve our Constitution.Getting along with the “good ole boys” in the Democratic Party doesn’t do much to help anything as we head toward socialism. You almost have to scratch your head wondering what Danforth is talking about. I don’t remember him writing an editorial about George Soros (an investor who has contributed to Democratic presidential campaigns) or about President Barack Obama leading us into socialism for eight years. Status quo has always been his position. He, Sens. Christopher “Kit” Bond, John Ashcroft and Jim Talent are now backing the possible run of Josh Hawley and with that being said, I must concern myself with the fact that Hawley is being initiated into the “good ole boys” club.I can only say that Hawley should distance himself from that group if at all possible, unless of course he wants to be one of the “good ole boys.”Harlan SchwendemannWarrenton, Mo.
