Enhanced Security System Provides Comfort for Innsbrook Residents

In late 2010, three young thieves eyed a chalet in the Innsbrook Resort community. Unbeknownst to them at the time, a security system connected to the resort's main entrance alerted a guard about the criminal activity that was about to occur. An Innsbrook security guard dispatched to the scene blocked the suspects from getting into their vehicle. Soon after, all three were taken into custody by a Warren County deputy. While the security system had been in place since the time Innsbrook was developed decades ago, that incident was a reminder of its importance. "It worked out well and they were apprehended," Innsbrook Director of Security Dan Dieckmann recalled about the 2010 incident. "We were on the cusp of ordering (an enhanced system), so it was nice to see that this does work." Early last year, Innsbrook completed an upgrade to its security system designed for future growth as well as being able to offer expanded monitoring of the properties that could not be provided by the older model. Because of it's secluded location, Innsbrook can be seen as an attractive place for would-be criminals to target because of its expensive homes and properties. While the system was a significant investment, Innsbrook officials hope the presence of the upgraded security measures serve as a deterrent for would-be criminals. "If you try to break in, there is a very likely chance we will get you," Dieckmann remarked. The new security system purchased from New Jersey-based Digitize, Inc., is connected with all custom homes, A-frames and condominiums - approximately 1,300 overall - situated throughout the sprawling 8,000-acre resort property, according to Dieckmann. Innsbrook Corporation pays the monthly fee for each property to be connected, according to Dieckmann. He said individual property owners then decide whether or not they want to upgrade and pay an additional fee for other options provided by the enhanced system. The system is designed to alert guards to a wide array of problems, such as an illegal entry of a residence, fire alarm, freezing, sewer backup or flooding. Security guards at the resort's main gate off Highway F monitor the computer-based system 24 hours a day, Once an alarm sounds, it sounds and flashes on the computer screen manned by a security guard at the main gate. Depending on the type of incident, the guard determines whether security or a maintenance employee should be dispatched to the property. It also includes a detailed call history that allows guards to note if a property owner is away on vacation or what days a cleaning person is scheduled to be there. Those notations help determine the importance of an urgent response should an alarm be tripped. Since the upgrade the reaction from residents and property owners, Dieckmann said, has been positive. "You will be surprised how many tell me they bought and the reason they stayed is having the sense of security," Dieckmann said. "It's huge knowing that when they leave, somebody is still looking at their place." Besides the residential properties, the security system is also connected to all Innsbrook corporate buildings and community properties, Dieckmann said. For example, the Harmonie Church has been a target by burglars in the past. He said should a break-in occur, a loud siren and light would sound alerting guards that an intruder is attempting to enter the church. Most residences and buildings, however, have a silent alarm that alerts guards to any incidents. "Little do you know that patrol is on its way and a Warren County deputy," Dieckmann said. In addition to the security system, the Innsbrook property is patrolled 24 hours a day. Dieckmann said each gate is either manned or has a motion-detected surveillance camera watching vehicles as they enter and leave. All gates and corporate and community buildings are randomly checked during each guard's shift, which amounts to three to four times a day, Dieckmann noted. Coupled with a vigilant group of property owners who report suspicious visitors and activities, Dieckmann said the enhanced security system provides a sense of security for residents who moved to Innsbrook to retire or as a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life for vacationers. "This is a huge step for us moving forward here," Dieckmann said. "It was a fantastic upgrade for our property owners."
