A small portion of the Emmaus Homes Marthasville campus acreage has been purchased by a local family, including the Emmaus cemetery.
The Hasenjaeger family has purchased 43 acres adjoining their property and has agreed to maintain the cemetery according to Missouri statutes and as terms of their sale agreement.
Lisa Key, chief development officer for Emmaus Homes, said there are another remaining 600 acres for sale, which is the site of original Emmaus buildings.
“A number of people have looked at the property and have expressed interest,” said Key.
She said there is no current contract on the remaining property. No timeline exists to sell the property, but Key said they are hoping it will take place soon.
“We are pleased that a local family has purchased this tract of land and are grateful for their commitment to maintain the cemetery,” said Cindy Clark, President and CEO of Emmaus.
When Emmaus Homes decided to sell the campus in 2015, family members and clients were told about their options for continued service, including the opportunity to live in the community of their choice. All clients have now transitioned to community homes. Nearly 40 clients live in Warren County.
