Eli Schneider, Warrenton offense explode in win at Holt

Posted

Eli Schneider and the rest of his Warrenton teammates had a big night at Holt on Friday.

The junior running back found the end zone four times as the visiting Warriors romped to a 49-14 win. The quarter of scores tripled his scoring output this season, as he had two scores entering the game.

Warrenton (3-2) was able to score in spurts to not only blow the game open, but also snap a modest two-game losing streak after defeats at the hands of St. Dominic and St. Charles West.

Schneider opened the team’s ledger on a 30-yard run with 3 minutes and 20 seconds left in the first quarter.

The team doubled the lead on its next drive when, with 2:06 left in the quarter, sophomore Mason Sanders connected with junior wide receiver Keegan Lehmkuhl for a 70-yard strike to give Warrenton the 14-0 lead after one quarter.

By halftime, Warrenton had four more scores and the Warriors held the firm 49-7 lead.

Sophomore Henry Schneider scampered home on a 12-yard run with 7:24 left in the quarter. Eli Schneider added an 18-yard run with 7:03 left in the half. Lehmkuhl scored on a 45-yard interception return with 6:26 left in the half, and after a Holt score, Eli Schneider found the end zone with a 1-yard plunge with 2:06 left in the half.

The only Warrenton score of the second half, which featured a turbo clock, came as Eli Schneider scored with 4:30 left in the third on a 6-yard run to make it 49-7 before a late score from Holt (2-3) closed out the game.

Holt’s only scores came on 6-yard runs by junior Dylan Gann and freshman Alex Ulansoski.

Warrenton will head on the road again at 7 p.m. next Friday when the Warriors head to Orchard Farm (3-2). Last season, the visiting Eagles ran past Warrenton 49-27 to not only snap a three-game win streak for Warrenton in the series but also tie the all-time tally at seven wins apiece.
