An early-morning fire Thursday significantly damaged a Wright City home.
Fire Chief Ron MacKnight said two adult occupants were in the home at the time of the blaze. Both were able to exit safely.
The home was located in the 300 block of Elm Street. MacKnight believes the fire was triggered from ashes that were removed from an outside wood stove. A strong wind likely carried the ashes from the container they were sitting in to the home, he said.
The first Wright City truck on the scene, consisting of one paid and three volunteers, arrived within minutes and stopped the fire from progressing further in the home. Most of the damage was limited to the structure's second floor, MacKnight said, and a lot of the family's belongings were recovered.Besides Wright City, crews from Warrenton, Wentzville and Lincoln County responded to the scene.Fire damages homePhoto courtesy of Wright City Fire Protection District
