Drivers Urged to Stay Off Roads

The Warren County Emergency Management Agency is advising residents to not drive unless absolutely necessary. A combination of treacherous road conditions and low visibility are causing dangerous situations throughout the region as a significant snow storm blankets the region today and tomorrow. The county remains under a Blizzard Warning until noon Wednesday, Feb. 2. The area is expected to be hit with moderate to heavy snow with accumulations from 12 to 24 inches possible. Winds are expected to increase throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday, with sustained winds expected to be 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. If people must travel, they should make sure they have enough fuel, blankets and water in case they are stranded. Motorists should also be aware of children playing in the snow. The low visibility could make it impossible to see children playing alongside roadways. While power outages are not expected to be widespread throughout Warren County, the possibility of localized outages do exist. Generators must be placed outdoors to properly ventilate carbon monoxide exhaust gas. Other hazards include poorly ventilated stoves, kerosene heaters and wood burning appliances. For any weather-related assistance, contact the Warren County Emergency Operations Center at 636-456-2208. People should still call 911 in emergency situations.  For the latest weather conditions and forecast, people may view the Missourian's weather page by clicking here.
